Senior Environmental Scientist
Brett is an environmental scientist with more than 20 years’ experience in planning and implementing monitoring programmes for assessing the impact of chemical contaminants in the marine environment. Brett currently sits on a number of national and international working groups developing and implementing marine monitoring programmes, including chair of the UK's Clean Safe Seas Evidence Group (CSSEG) and representing the UK at various International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) and OSPAR working groups. He has published widely in the field of marine environmental monitoring, with over 60 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. In recent years Brett has been instrumental in developing the over-arching marine chemical contaminant surveillance strategy for UK waters and has been involved in developing an integrated biological effects and chemical monitoring programme for both OSPAR and (Marine Strategy Framework Directive) MSFD purposes. In addition, he has worked widely overseas for a number of commercial clients and designed and implemented marine monitoring programmes in both the Middle East and the South Pacific. Brett is on the editorial board for Marine Environmental Research and has recently led a special issue of Marine Pollution Bulletin.
