Quality Assurance
The provision of our fisheries advice is dependent on a chain of processes including market and observer surveys, fishery independent surveys, sample processing, data curation and delivery, fisheries stock assessment and the development and review of advice. Quality assurance procedures are applied at all steps in this advisory process. The methods used to provide advice are subject to ongoing reviews and improvements. These are achieved through international review and benchmarking and the review and assimilation of new science and tools.
Cefas have been ISO 17025 accredited for our Otolith Processing and Age Determination since 2009, verifying that we are carrying out this work to a consistently high standard with accurate traceability of samples throughout the process, and effective training and quality control procedures in place. We were the first lab globally to gain accreditation for this type of work.
