Industry and Society
Climate change is increasingly affecting marine sectors and coastal communities. Our work helps develop adaptive capacity by limiting the negative impacts and identifying potential opportunities.
We have a strong track record in studies of climate change impacts on fisheries, both in the UK and internationally. Our work has explored future shifts in fisheries resources, the effect of changing catches on the future profitability of fleets, and the effects of changing storminess. We also undertake climate vulnerability and resilience assessments of fleets and fisheries.

Our expertise also include the economic impacts of ocean acidification on UK shellfisheries and aquaculture and the implications of changes in the distribution of warm water Vibrios and harmful algal blooms for human health and the sea farming sector. We study public perceptions and attitudes surrounding climate change from UK and European perspectives.
Finally, through our Cefas OMRE (Offshore Marine and Renewable Energy) group, we also have a significant and growing body of integrated research, advice and project delivery in relation to OMRE, to help ensure responses to climate change are sustainable for industry, society and nature.
