Dr Elisa Capuzzo

Dr Elisa Capuzzo is a Senior Ecosystem Scientist working at Cefas since 2009. Her work focuses on supporting the sustainable development of seaweed aquaculture in the UK and abroad. She is also interested in plankton ecology, environmental drivers of plankton communities, phytoplankton primary production and long-term changes in light climate of the seas around the UK. She has been leading multiple projects focusing on seaweed farming and extractive aquaculture - evaluating environmental effects, sites selection for aquaculture, feasibility study on potential uses of seaweeds – with focus in the UK and abroad (e.g. Philippines), under various funding schemes (e.g. Newton Fund, EU EMFF, MMO, Defra). Dr Capuzzo’s research is regularly published in peer-review journals and reports and presented at national and international conferences. She has an extensive experience in fieldwork both in oceanographical and fishery surveys, with participation to over 30 surveys.
