Elena Mengo

Elena Mengo is an environmental social scientist. She has a multidisciplinary background in Economics and International Relations with an interest on the use of interdisciplinary research to understand how people interact with and are connected to marine and coastal environments. At national level, she is currently investigating - using participatory approaches - how cultural ecosystem services can be incorporated in natural capital accounting and policy decision making. At international level her research focused on the poverty - environment nexus and how this relationship should be taken into consideration for the development of marine and coastal ecosystem accounts in Small Islands Developing States (SIDS). Elena's research also strongly focuses on the social and behavioural dimensions of fisheries and aquaculture, particularly on gender equality.
