Bangladesh Familiarisation and Training Workshop, September 2022

The FAO Reference Centre for Bivalve Mollusc Sanitation supported a 2-day training and familiarisation session on bivalve mollusc production for 25 Bangladeshi Government Officials and official control laboratories from across the country in September 2022, this visit was partly funded through the Ocean Country Partnership Programme, part of the Blue Planet Fund. Bivalve molluscs are common in Bangladesh, with an estimated 140 indigenous species in marine and freshwater environments, but to date there is no commercial harvest of this protein rich foodstuff. The objective of the training was to provide hands on experience of growing area risk profiling and practical training in microbiological methods to support the developing bivalve programmes.

A list of recommendations were agreed at the workshop and will form the framework for future collaboration on the development of sustainable, safe bivalve production. We have also made the presentations from the workshop available
