Publication Abstract

The seasonal migration of soles (solea solea) through the Dover Strait

M. Greer Walker and L. Emerson

The seasonal migration of soles through the Dover Strait has been investigated using midwater trawling techniques on north-going and south-going tides. An unknown proportion of soles which spawn in the Thames estuary and off the East Anglian coast during the spring and summer use selective tidal stream transport to migrate into the Channel during November. Pre-spawning soles return in the same manner during March.
