The relationship between growth increment in the year preceding spawning, condition at spawning time and fecundity was examined using soles collected from the North Sea and eastern English Channel. The growth increment of individual fish was compared with the fecundity estimated separately for each fish. Significant differences in fecundity were found between areas and across years. Variation in fecundity was explained largely by weight or combination of length and condition index at spawning time. Growth increment did not significantly improve the model.
