Recent studies on the fecundity of European flat oyster, Ostrea edulis, spawning in the Solent

S.D. Utting, M.M. Helm and P.F. Millican

Fecundity of Ostrea edulis, measured as the number of larvae brooded per oyster, was studied in the Solent during the 1985-87 breeding seasons. Values were comparable to those found for O. edulis in the early 1960s. The reproductive development of Solent oysters has not been retarded by pollutants.
