Fecundity of Ostrea edulis, measured as the number of larvae brooded per oyster, was studied in the Solent during the 1985-87 breeding seasons. Values were comparable to those found for O. edulis in the early 1960s. The reproductive development of Solent oysters has not been retarded by pollutants.
