Monitoring programmes in the North Sea
R.J. Law
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) Fisheries Laboratory at Burnham on Crouch is involved in a number of monitoring programmes in the North Sea, some of which are statutory (undertaken in support of legislative controls) and others which are co-ordinated on a national or international basis. In many cases the programmes also operate in the English Channel and the Irish Sea. The data derived from these studies are published either in the open literature, or as Aquatic Environment Monitoring Reports. Two such reports published recently present data from 1984 to 1989; data from subsequent years will be published annually.
