New EU feed additives legislation and the fish farmer.

European feed additives legislation has recently been updated (EU1831/2003). This article explains the implications of the new regulation for fish farmers and feed additive manufacturers and overviews the process required to gain approval for licencing, or relicencing, an additive by the EU, including the role of the newly established European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) in the process. Also, the differences between veterinary medicines and feed additives are explained.
