Filling the tank: elephant seals poised for independence
G.H. Engelhard
Each year from September to November, large numbers of elephant seals still breed on the wind-swept beaches of a small island in the Southern Ocean - Macquarie Island. But their numbers are declining: at present they are only about half of those in the 1950s. Are reduced weights of pups related with population decline?
