Climate change and Norway lobster

G.H. Engelhard* and J.K. Pinnegar*

Over the past 3 decades, Nephrops landings from southerly populations have generally decreased, and landings from more northerly populations have either increased or remained stable. Future studies might address the relative contributions of climate and fishing on the geographically different trends in landings and population sizes, and on how these may do so in the future. However for this species with highly specific habitat requirements, it will also be particularly important to examine whether this may make it particularly vulnerable to climate change.
