A common parasite in pike can cause renal hypertrophy especially in young fish. Could be confused with PKD.
Affected glomeruli enlarged. Single infected cells become greatly hypertrophied and constitute a parasitic xenoma containing extrasporogenic stages. Some renal tubules harbour sporogonic stages and collecting duct epithelial cells contain intracellular forms.
