Mycobacteriosis or amoebic infection are possible aetiologies
All kidney samples submitted exibited numerous granulomatous lesions. Several included necrotic centres with aggregations of basophilic material dispersed amoungst the layers of eosinophilic cellular debris. In some cases, large numbers of pale staining eosinophilic cells with granular cytoplasm and spherical nuclei with densely stained chromatin were associated with the peripheral areas of the granuloma. These were interpreted as cells related to the chronic inflammatory response. One specimen was devoid of excretory elements and another was characterised by the presence of fibrotic material.
