Large white lesion, 8-10mm in diameter, disected away from animal. Intersex appears in one H&E section. Mussels sampled as a result of the Sea Empress oil spill off Milford Haven.
Occasional finding
Presence of sperm and premature oocyte in separate follicles of the mantle. Apoptosis of early stage oogonial cells. Large eosinophillic regions appears to be tumourous possibly arising from undifferentaited gonadal cells or muscular in origin.
