From Riddlers fishmonger, Newton Abbot, Devon. Black patches on flesh; not visible through skin, although internally, some patches were found adjacrnt to skin. H&E, Silver methenamine

Significance:

An occasional report fish processors

Lession:

Extensive myositis with infiltration of the muscle fibres with fungal hyphae leading to necrosis. Attempt by host to encapsulate the fungus leading to multiple granulomatous lesions. Some hyphae are pigmented appearing brown in section. A possible explanation of the gross appearance of "black patches".
