Data policy

The data displayed on the WaveNet website have been obtained from a number of sources in both the public and private sectors. As some of the data belongs to third parties there are different restrictions for the availability and use. The identity of the owner and any restrictions are stated on the “Advanced Information” tab for each specific location or the “Refine selection” tab of the visualisation/download facility. The restrictions have been identified using the following categories:

1. Data fully available for download. No restrictions – available under Open Government Licence.

2. Data downloadable for non-commercial uses only. These data are only downloadable for non-commercial government and academic use. 

3. Data downloadable for commercial use subject to extraction fee. As of April 2015, data from the following WaveNet sites are available for commercial use by contacting wavenet@cefas.co.uk and paying an extraction fee: Blackstones, Dowsing, Firth of Forth, Hastings, Liverpool Bay, Moray Firth, Poole Bay, Scarweather, South Knock, Southwold Approach, SW Isles of Scilly, Tyne/Tees, West Gabbard, West Lundy, West of Hebrides and West Pembrokeshire

4. Data not for download. These data have been provided to improve coastal flood forecasting around the UK. These data are only available for visualisation on the website and must not be downloaded by any means. For details of data availability and use, the owner should be contacted directly.
