Frederico Batista
Molecular Biologist
Frederico has a BSc in Marine Biology from the University of Algarve, and a PhD in Aquatic Sciences from the University of Porto, Portugal. He is a senior scientist specialist in molluscan diseases working in the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (UK). Frederico is leading the work of the Molluscan Health Theme within the WOAH Collaborating Centre for Emerging Aquatic Animal Disease. He is currently the rep of the England and Wales National Reference Laboratory for mollusc diseases. His work focuses on diseases of aquatic invertebrates, in particular diseases of molluscs, and combines histopathology, experimental challenges, and nucleic acid-based approaches. He has 15 years of postdoctoral experience in the diagnosis of diseases in farmed and wild aquatic invertebrates. Frederico is an author on over 40 peer-reviewed publications in the field of aquatic sciences, most of them in diseases of aquatic organisms.
