Irene Cano Cejas
Microbiologist and Immunologist
Dr Irene Cano Cejas is an experienced Microbiologist and Immunologist researcher, with more than 15 years of postdoc research in the field of fish and shellfish diseases. Irene is leading numerous studies in collaboration with various national and international groups specialized in the study of viral pathogenicity, emerging diseases, and novel treatments to control disease outbreaks in aquaculture. Her research includes pathogen and host transcriptome studies, point-of-care diagnostics, understanding of pathogen virulence and rickettsia-like infection on aquatic species, development of in vitro models to study host-pathogen interaction, and antiviral testing of biohazard level 3 (BSL-3) pathogens.
