Ronny van Aerle

Bioinformatician

Dr Ronny van Aerle is a principal bioinformatician at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) and is based at the recently established Cefas Genomics Facility in the Exeter Science Park, Exeter, UK. He has an integrated MSc in Biological Sciences from Utrecht University (The Netherlands) and a PhD in Ecotoxicology from Brunel University (Uxbridge, UK). He leads the ‘Genomic Data and Health’ topic within the Seafood Hazards Theme and is Theme Lead on ‘Host Pathogen Interactions and Genomics’ at the Sustainable Aquaculture Futures Centre at the University of Exeter, UK. In his work, he applies the latest sequencing and bioinformatics methods to identify and characterise novel and emerging pathogens causing disease in fish and shellfish, and to study host-pathogen interactions during the infection process. He is an author on over 60 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of ecotoxicology, genomics, and aquatic animal health.
