Dr Bryony Townhill
Senior Marine Climate Change Scientist
Bryony is a marine climate change scientist, and she is deputy director of the International Marine Climate Change Centre (iMC3). She works on a range of climate-related projects to determine the climate impacts on species and coastal communities, and identify measures to put in place to build resilience.
Bryony’s work focuses on the use of models in assessing the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems, and also on increasing understanding of marine climate change and adaptation issues in small islands. Climate impacts which are considered within Bryony’s research include low oxygen, temperature changes and ocean acidification, as well as sea level rise and storms on coastal communities. She works with global and regional physical climate datasets and interprets these from an ecological perspective. She has worked on a number of climate projects including understanding the impacts of climate change on UK marine industries, protected habitats and on small island environments and societies. Recent work has focused on climate change adaptation of fisheries and fishing communities in the Caribbean.
