Cefas and the Marine Management Organisation are working in partnership to deliver the Blue Belt Programme on behalf of the UK Government. The UK and Overseas Territory (OT) governments are committed to working together to preserve and protect the rich environmental heritage of the OTs, whilst enabling sustainable growth.

The Blue Belt Programme supports delivery of the UK government’s commitment to provide long term protection of over four million square kilometres of marine environment across the UK Overseas Territories.

Overall, the Blue Belt Programme works to:

improve scientific understanding of the marine environment
develop and implement evidence-based, tailored marine management strategies including surveillance and enforcement
ensure management is sustainable and long term.
