Removal of Ethanol from PLONOR list
1 January 2022
At the OSPAR Offshore Industry Committee (OIC) 2021 meeting, Contracting Parties agreed that Ethanol (CAS 64-17-5; EC 200-578-6), due to reprotoxic and carcinogenic properties, should be removed from the OSPAR PLONOR list on 1st January 2022.
The registration requirements under the OSPAR HMCS approach means that HOCNF submissions must now be supported by test data for this substance.
If necessary Cefas are willing to issue short-term templates until 01/06/2022 to allow time for any necessary testing and data gathering to be carried out.
As an alternative to testing, suppliers are reminded that if good quality literature data are available, these can be used for registration purposes for Ethanol. As always, suppliers should retain copies of the relevant literature and/or reports so that they can be provided to Cefas if requested.
