The Premiam partners group continues to grow
25 February 2010
The Premiam (Pollution Response in Emergencies - Marine Impact Assessment and Monitoring) project aims to improve post-spill monitoring in the marine environment through the production of guidelines and the formation and co-ordination of a network of response suppliers. It also aims to act as a focus point for the improvement of oil and chemical spill monitoring response and for the sharing and development of best practice.
A core strength of the Premiam approach is the cross-government integration and commitment to the project and their active input and support as Premiam partners.
The founding group of partners consisted of:
- Cefas(Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science) - Chair and co-ordinator
- Defra(Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)
- MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency)
- MFA(Marine and Fisheries Agency - soon to become Marine Management Organisation)
- EA(Environment Agency)
- FSA(Food Standards Agency)
- NE(Natural England)
- CCW(Countryside Council for Wales)
- JNCC(Joint Nature Conservation Committee)
- LGA(Local Government Association)
Recently Premiam has welcomed three new partners into the fold:
- HPA(Health Protection Agency)
- WAG(Welsh Assembly Government)
- DECC(Department of Energy and Climate Change)
This expansion of the partners group is providing further impetus to the project aims. It is further evidence of the importance being placed on the need and ability to conduct high quality and effective post spill investigations and the cross government collective integration in the matter.
